Early Years

To gain the prestigious Director of Public Health Award, an early years setting (group based, home based, nursery class, reception class or Children’s Centre) has to complete two certificates.

They are the Healthy Early Years Certificate and the Healthy Outcomes Certificate for Early Years.  The Healthy Early Years Certificate is evidence that your setting is a healthy place.  The Healthy Outcomes Certificate for Early Years shows that your setting has improved the health and well-being of young children and families in the setting.

When you have gained a certificate it will be valid for two years. Most settings will start and complete one certificate before starting the other. You will decide which certificate to tackle first.

For the period 1st April 2017 - 31st March 2018, the DPH Award Early Years subscription payable is :

  • £35 for Children’s Centre Services
  • £35 for independent/private/maintained/academy nursery and reception provision
  • £20 for voluntary group-based settings
  • £12 for childminders

Reduced rates for training places will also be available for DPH Award subscribers via The Hub.

Once you have signed up, there is a generous package of support for your setting, much of which you can access via a secure area on the website. That is where you will find all the tools you need to complete the award.  You will also have individual support and advice from the Director of Public Health Award Coordinator Early Years and the Director of Public Health Award Practitioner Early Years.

To gain each certificate the whole setting community, including children and families, will need to be involved. Find out more about the process by clicking on the tabs on the left hand side of this page.

Joining the programme
