Young Children’s Review

To gain the Healthy Early Years Certificate, it is important to involve children in a meaningful way. The Review asks that children (children and families for Children’s Centres) attending the setting are involved in submitting a piece entitled:

'How we made our setting healthier'

The Review can be in the form of writing, drawings, photo-story, film or audio – whichever appeals to the setting and which captures what has been developed from the children’s (and families) perspective.

We have designed a HEYC YC Review Template, which you can use to present your review or you can use the headings to guide the content for your own format.

It should be no longer than 750 words (approximately two sides of A4) or 2 minutes. Some examples of Young Children's Reviews submitted by successful settings can be found here.

When you submit your Biennial Audit on-line, you will receive an e-mail from the Director of Public Health Award team prompting you to also submit your Young Children's Review.

Both elements will then be reviewed by the Award Group to confirm that you have achieved the Healthy Early Years Certificate.

Guidance on how to complete the Young Children’s Review can be found in the 'How to achieve the Healthy Early Years Certificate'
