We will continue to add to the list of useful websites/resources.  Most have been designed by the DPH Award team and are only available here.  Some are available elsewhere online but have been gathered here for DPH Award members' convenience.

Public Health: Guidance on Infection Control In Schools and Other Childcare Settings - This guidance provides advice on: preventing the spread of infections; which diseases to vaccinate for; how long to keep children away from school and controlling infections such as athlete’s foot, flu, German measles, head lice, impetigo, TB.

Farm Visits: Health Guidance - Health and Safety Executive advice for avoiding ill health from animal contact at visitor attractions. See pages 11 and 12 for specific advice on organising visits for children

Get The Balance Right - Portion Sizes - Leaflet with clear guidlines for balancing the portions of different food types - including fat and sugar.

'Good food Choices and Portion Sizes' - This pictorial guide from First Steps Nutrition Trust, gives easy to access information on how to provide a balanced meals in appropriate portion sizes for 1-4 year olds.

Diet and Dental Decay - Factsheet - a summary of the link between sugars and tooth decay.  Also includes recommendations for avoiding decay.

Teaching children about a balanced diet - Information about how to teach young children what it means to have a balanced diet - including the reasons we should avoid saying healthy/unhealthy when talking about foods.

Dental Health

Supervised toothbrushing trial results - Read about what happened when the DPH Award and Public Health teams delivered a 12 week supervised toothbrushing trial in early years and KS1 settings.  Staff at the settings/schools were trained to support children in brushing their teeth once a day and to cascade information to families about dental health. The trial reached approximately 300 children aged from 2 – 6 years and their families.
