Increasing physical activity in girls - St John's Primary MSN

Class teachers consulted children to discover what types of activities female pupils in particular would like to take part in. Recurring suggestions were dance and netball.

The school therefore offered clubs with a more female orientation across the year groups. In KS1 they ran Energy Club which is gender neutral and teaches children about healthy lifestyles and being physically literate.

Netball club was offered, with further opportunities for competition given across the year. Street dance and classic dance clubs were started, with performances arranged for the whole school.

A fun fitness club was arranged for the girls based on the data from the SHEU survey, which taught children physical literacy.

They also put more of an emphasis on celebrating achievements in sport and in performance of talents.

Displays are found throughout the school/website highlighting the achievements of all the clubs and events taken part in.
